
- Youth driven high school and middle school groups within the Mid Coast region; sponsored by ACCESS Health and Healthy Maine Partnerships.
- Interactive approach that allows students to determine what they regard as health concerns for their peers and community and then create activities that proactively target these concerns.
- Increases student awareness and involvement in health related issues such as tobacco related diseases, substance abuse, inactivity and inadequate nutrition.
- Each youth group creates their own action plan to educate on the dangers of tobacco, underage drinking, nutrition and physical activity.
- The Youth Advocacy Program's main goal is to support youth in their decision to remain and/or become tobacco free, nutritionally aware and physically fit through educational activities and programs.

- Producing videos and public service announcements.
- Organizing activities for the Great American Smokeout, World No Tobacco Day and Kick Butts Day.
- Actively participating in statewide events such as the Hall of Flags in Augusta and various press conferences.
- Providing interactive classroom presentations for younger students including the Samantha Skunk program.
- Trail building and the promotion of physical activity, indoor and outdoor events.
- Nutrition activities, such as healthy global food samples during lunch hour
- Participating in the Maine Youth Action Network, Maine
- Facilitated by the Youth Advocacy Program Coordinator for the Mid Coast region.
- Each school has a teacher liaison that helps the students and Youth Advocacy Program Coordinator communicate effectively and consistently.
